On the edge of a cliff

I write this piece with a very heavy heart! Normally, when I write a piece like this, I do not indulge in sensationalism Or over-dramatic titles. Having said that, I feel it is necessary in this case in order to emphasize the seriousness of this situation! When I heard the Treasury say that we could default on our debt As early as the first of June, that sent a shiver down my spine! Frankly, that possibility should scare you too, regardless of your political affiliation or belief! Strangely, The politicians in Washington have thus far failed to appreciate the seriousness of the situation, and I don't understand why? It could be politics, it could be pride, or it could be a mixture of both, regardless of the reasons it's unacceptable! I accept that politicians were how different ideas about economic policy, which is well and good in a democracy. However, I cannot accept politicians playing Russian roulette with the country's economic future just for the sake of proving a political point! Now is not the time to be policy differences. There will be plenty of time for that later. Now is the time to stop the bus from going off the cliff! Once that is done, we will have plenty of time to exchange policy ideas and economic theories. It is vital that we take action now that we can have There been a debate in the future, and Otherwise there won't be much left to debate because we will have no economy whatsoever! I realize that this is not the first time there has been disagreement over what to do when it comes to the national debt. There have been many disagreements over the years. However, this time feels different. Neither side seems interested in genuine negotiation! Instead, both sides seem interested In making their political opponents look bad, even if they have to collapse the economy to do so. I ask this, what does that say about the purpose and functionality of our government? In my opinion, it does not bode well for either the purpose or the functionality of our governmental system when the people we elect to do our business are willing to hold the economy, hostage, just for the sake of political gamesmanship! I wonder if the politicians in Washington actually do understand the seriousness of this situation and if so, do they actually care? Either way, It does not give me confidence in the process or in the people who participate in that process on our behalf!
