The United States and the abortion debate

In the politics of the United States of America, There are not very many issues that Can cross generational boundaries. The right to access safe and legal abortion is one of those issues! Ever since the Supreme Court handed down its decision in Roe versus Wade which guaranteed the right to a Safe legal abortion, it has been a constant flash point of controversy for many people since. Speaking for myself, this entire debate seems rather Strange surely the United States has Other problems to contend With However, it does not seem like this debate will go away anytime soon! Recently, the Supreme Court poured gas on the fire by overturning its previous decision. I am still baffled as to the reason why The previous president had been in effect since 1973 And by Indications it was working wonderfully! There will always be people who will object to abortion Because of religious grounds or other reasons, and I respect their right to do so! That said, it is very clear that the majority of people in this country support the right to abortion access! I would argue that since 1973, support for abortion access has grown substantially Yet it still remains A central part Of the political sphere. I believe that this is largely driven by the Republican Party's continued insistence on making it part of their platform. They continue to advocate abortion restrictions even though They are criticized for it! It is obvious that they are willing To keep this issue valuable no matter the political consequences. At this point, the question does become what possible benefit Could the Republicans gain from continuing to push this issue? To be entirely honest, I could not think of a single benefit and yet here we are This is The part which I really do not understand I had always thought that Republicans advocated for limited government interference in the exercise of An individual's liberty Is it just me or does the Republicans position on abortion strike anybody else as massively hypocritical? One only needs to look at Their objections to vaccine mandates on the basis of my body, my choice! Logically, abortion falls under the same umbrella. Oops, I forgot logic doesn't apply in politics! I think it is an embarrassment that in 2023 They haven't learned to leave well enough alone, Even the Republic of Ireland Has moved on from this debate! I think this illustrates perfectly why so many people have lost faith in the political process. Put simply, We keep ignoring issues that need to be dealt with in favor of going over the same stupid arguments over and over again! The United States is the only modern developed country that continues To debate this issue All of our allies have moved on and with good reason, It's time for us to do the same Frankly, it's an embarrassment to the country that we refuse to do so the United States Hold itself up to be the standard Of freedom in the world and yet, we still have this albatross firmly around our neck At best it's insulting And at worst it's hypocritical!
